DoR and player London Welsh RFC

Cai Griffiths, Director of Rugby at London Welsh. Cai spent over 10 years playing for ospreys, 1 year at London Irish and 1 year at London Welsh. Cai has also spent 4 years coaching with Bury St Edmunds and now London Welsh.

I’m excited to be a Champion for Rugby Against Cancer. I have been monitoring this great charity for while and once I knew exactly what they did and how they support people affected by cancer in the rugby family I had to get involved and volunteer.

“Rugby Against Cancer was founded by a Rugby player and 4 rugby players make up the committee/trustees. We personally know how important the rugby community and family is, and this is why we want to do our bit and help those within this amazing community.

Cancer does not discriminate and can affect anybody, so we want to be there for those that need it. Be that rugby players who have been diagnosed with cancer, the family of rugby players or those that don’t play anymore but are still involved in the rugby community.

Not only do we want to support this group of people, but we will support fundraisers and smaller cancer charities that need to raise awareness and funds to continue to do what they do”

I really hope I can add value and highlight that there is support for people who are dealing with cancer. Please get behind Rugby Against Cancer and support where you can.

Tom Varndell

Former England and Premiership Rugby Player

During my rugby career I have been involved with a lot of charities at one time or another, but I have to say that Rugby Against Cancer is something special. Not only is it raising money for a fantastic cause, it does it by bringing the whole rugby family togetherness feel with it. This for me is so special. Rugby is a game that has given me so much happiness and for the game and its amazing qualities, togetherness, teamwork, strength and enjoy enjoyment to name a few, to be used to raise awareness for something that does have such a huge effect on people everywhere is brilliant. When I came to last years event down in Portsmouth and walked into the rugby club I was blown away by the 100’s of friendly faces who were there to not only enjoy the day and have fun, but to show there support and for all the people who are effected by cancer daily.

Rugby Against Cancer for me is essential to not only for the rugby community who are effected by the disease but anyone who has be effected. To have a community and network who you can rely on for support is essential, and that is something this fantastic charity can provide.
